Dustin Hawkins

Co-Coordinator Mental Wellness Team

Dustin Hawkins has been serving as a Firefighter for Indian River County Fire Rescue since 2002 and currently holds the rank of Engineer. Dustin has been dedicated to the Dive Team since 2003 with multiple disciplines within the field. He has been an active member of the department’s Honor Guard since its inception in 2004.

Firefighter/Engineer Hawkins is also serves as the department Chaplain as well as the Local 2201 Chaplain. For the past decade, he has championed behavioral health and is focused on collaborative efforts and relationship building to develop mental health wellness strategies for first responders and their families.

Dustin serves as a Director for the Florida Firefighters Safety and Health Collaborative (FFSHC), which focuses in the areas of: firefighter cancer prevention, health and fitness, mental wellness, and firefighter safety. Through the FFSHC, Dustin co-chairs the statewide mental wellness team with a primary focus on positive outcomes for firefighter behavioral health initiatives.

Public speaking engagements include teaching at the local fire department, area departments, Safety Stand Downs, and presentations on the Collaborative. Specific events include: Florida Fire Chiefs Safety and Health Conference 2016, Florida Fire Chief Executive Development Conference 2017, as well as the Firefighter Cancer Initiative at University of Miami.
